Unlike other major AAA video games, there’s no auto-saving in NieR Replicant, so if players end up falling to a tough enemy, they can potentially lose all of their progress that they have made since their last save. Being that NieR Replicant is a remaster of a game that originally launched in 2010, there are a few things that feel a bit archaic, and no auto-save functionality is one of those things. But, by reading this guide, players can find out how to save their game so that no precious progress is lost.

How to Save in NieR Replicant
Saving the game in NieR Replicant is taught to players shortly after the time jump that happens shortly after the opening sequence of the game. Players are only able to save via the mailboxes that are scattered throughout the world of NieR Replicant, which are embedded in a brick wall with gears inside of it. As seen in the image below, players will have to press the interact button to access the mailbox and save their game progress. If players can’t seem to find the location of a mailbox nearby them, they can find the mailbox by looking at the map in the bottom-right corner of the screen. The mailboxes will be marked with a blue circular icon, allowing players to easily spot them if they need to save before a tough fight or a long cutscene.
There are a total of three different save slots for players to use, and these can come in handy if players are attempting to see all of the different endings that the game has. Players can also save their game before making an important decision so that they can reload their previous save to change their choice. Thankfully, these mailboxes are typically easy to find thanks to the game’s map and should be found nearby key locations in NieR Replicant.
After players make sure that their progress is saved, they can continue the game and try to complete some of the side quests, such as one that requires players to find some lost chicken eggs for one of the NPCs in the starting village.
NieR Replicant is now available for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
