However, while it at first looks as if Dad Nier is being omitted from the remake entirely, Nier Replicant’s producer Yosuke Saito teased in a recent interview with PCGamesN that the game will have something for fans of that version of the character to enjoy. He obviously didn’t go into specifics, only saying that those who played the original game ten years ago will be more than satisfied.

Previously, Square Enix has said that there is no option to switch between the two versions of the protagonist. But, there has been some speculation that the dad character will be included when one of the pre-order bonus PlayStation avatars was censored. The censored avatar is clearly meant to depict him, leading some to theorize that he may be an unlockable of some kind.
Saito also teased other brand-new additions to the remake, such as some connections to the sequel game Nier: Automata (which is set thousands of years after the first game), extra story content not present in the original, and an entirely new boss fight. Saito describes this boss fight as being “heartrendingly sad but unbelievably powerful,” which suggests that it’s a secret boss that players will need to actively hunt down.
Nier Replicant releases for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on April 23.
