To help reach Ningguang’s max potential, the player will need to ascend her. This will require quite a bit of Mora, many items, and some patience. For both her ascension and talent upgrades, Ningguang will need all the items and Mora listed here.
Leveling Materials
Every Genshin Impact character needs the same amount of EXP to reach level 90, which is the max level. Ningguang is no exception to this, needing 8,362,650 total EXP to max out. Here’s how much EXP is needed per level, as well as the price in Mora:
There are many combinations of EXP books that will add up to this total, but here’s an efficient one:
There will be a bit of wasted EXP at each ascension level, but overall, this combination is pretty efficient.
Ningguang Ascension Items
Each ascension level requires a particular gemstone that matches a character’s Vision, as well as some enemy items and local specialty items. Ningguang is a Geo character, so she uses Prithiva Topaz, while her ascension also requires Fatui Insignias dropped by Fatui agents, Basalt Pillars dropped by the Geo Hypostasis, and one of Liyue’s local specialties, Glaze Lilies. Additionally, there is a Mora cost for ascension.
Here’s everything Ningguang needs per level, as well as in total:
Gemstones - Where to Find Prithiva Topaz
Prithiva Topaz, like every other element’s gemstones, can be obtained by completing daily commissions, crafting, converting, and the souvenir shops in Mondstadt and Liyue. More specifically, certain bosses can drop Prithiva Topaz gems:
Geo Hypostasis Primo Geovishap Wolf of the North Azhdaha Perpetual Mechanical Array
Defeating these bosses and challenges at higher World Levels or challenge levels will result in higher levels of gems (ie. lower levels can reward slivers, higher levels can reward gemstones, and so on).
Enemy Drop - Where to Find Fatui Insignias
The three levels of Fatui Insignias all drop from Fatui enemies (but not Fatui Mirror Maidens, strangely). The higher the level of the enemy, the better their drops can be:
Recruit’s Insignias can be dropped by any Fatui enemy Sergeant’s Insignias can be dropped by Fatui that are level 40 and higher Lieutenant’s Insignias can be dropped by Fatui that are level 60 and higher
Fatui agents can be found almost anywhere in the three released regions, and they shouldn’t be too hard to find. Quite a few of them can appear on Dragonspine and around the Dunyu Ruins and Lingju Pass in Liyue.
Boss Drop - How to Get Basalt Pillars
Basalt Pillars are the boss drop from the Geo Hypostasis. This boss is found in Liyue on an island in the Guyun Stone Forest archipelago.

The Geo Hypostasis can only be damaged when it exposes its core, and it’s completely immune to Geo damage. It’ll create pillars and float over top of them. By smashing the one it’s on top of, the player can knock it down and open it up to damage.
Local Specialty - Where to Find Glaze Lily
The gorgeous Glaze Lily is a flower found in Liyue only. Ningguang needs quite a few to ascend completely.
They can be found growing on the terraces around Qinqce Village, as well as in some places around Liyue Harbor They can be grown in the Serenitea Pot by purchasing their seeds and planting them in the Luxuriant Glebe Ms. Bai, a vendor in Qinqce Village, will sell three Glaze Lilies for 50,000 Mora each. She restocks them once every week
Ningguang Talent Materials
Leveling up Ningguang’s talents is similar to every other character. Each talent maxes out at level 10, requiring some talent books of a particular series, monster drops, Mora, and a material from a Trounce Domain boss. Additionally, a Crown of Insight will be needed to upgrade a talent from level 9 to level 10.

Here’s what each of Ningguang’s talents requires to be upgraded, including a total per talent and that total tripled, because there are three upgradeable talents.
Talent Books - Prosperity
The talent book series that Ningguang uses is the Prosperity series. These books are obtained from the Taishan Mansion on Mondays, Thursdays, and Sundays.
Additionally, they can be crafted from three copies of the lower level — three Teachings can be crafted into a Guide, and three Guides can be crafted into a Philosophies.
Trounce Materials and Crowns of Insight
The Trounce material Ningguang needs to upgrade her talents is the Spirit Locket of Boreas. This is a potential drop when defeating the Wolf of the North challenge at level 70 or higher. This is one of the weekly boss fights, meaning the player has one chance at grabbing some of the materials only once per week.
If it proves difficult to obtain the Spirit Locket, it can be converted from the other Boreas items, the Ring of Boreas and Tail of Boreas, with the help of some Dream Solvent and a crafting bench.
Crowns of Insight are very rare items that are needed to max out a talent. There are a few that can be obtained by making offerings to the sacred trees of Teyvat — the Frostbearing Tree on Dragonspine and the Sacred Sakura in Inazuma. Additional Crowns are earned as a reward during certain special events, so watch out for those.
Genshin Impact is available on PC, PS4, PS5, and mobile devices, with a Nintendo Switch version in development.
