In this tournament, the 8 teams simply queued like normal players for 4 hours straight. Points were accrued both by earning kills and winning matches. Win more and kill more than the other 7 teams in the tournament and win the tournament. It’s only fitting that both Ninja’s King’s Canyon and another team, chocoTaco’s Reid’s Money Team were nearly tied as the 4-hour time limit ended and each of their rounds continued as part of overtime.
Ninja’s team, which included NRG Esports team members dizzy and KingRichard, finished its final round first at 420 points with the addition of the bonus points earned by being Champion. Reid’s Money Team, which included chocoTaco, TSM’s vsnz, and Rogue’s HusKers, was behind by a significant, but not insurmountable number of points. With 4 squads left in the round, Reid’s Money Team cleaned house and took the win. Unfortunately, their final score of 419 fell short by just a single point.
Winning first place in the tournament granted Ninja and his team a prize of $8,000. While they didn’t win, Reid’s Money Team had the last laugh. In addition to Reid’s Money Team’s $7,000 prize for second place, they also earned an additional $7,500 for having the most kills overall in the tournament. This is a fitting prize considering just how close they came to taking first place.
Luckily for all teams involved, a second Twitch Rivals Apex Legends Challenge is already scheduled and is less than a week away. Twitch Rivals Apex Legends Challenge 2 will run on February 19 and will feature the same format and prize pool. While none of the teams have yet to be confirmed for the follow-up tournament, it wouldn’t be surprising to see some of the same faces participating in the event.
Apex Legends is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
