The characters of Ninjala are all descendants of ancient ninja lineages, whose power still lives in their DNA. This power can only be unlocked through the use of Ninja-gum, which gifts the characters their special abilities. The eight characters all came into their powers in their own way, and their distinct personalities mean that each has a different approach to ninjutsu.

The Researchers
Of the eight playable characters in Ninjala, three are actually the original inventors of Ninja-Gum.
Berecca: As one of the researchers who created Ninja-Gum, Berecca worked alongside Burton and Ron. Her own ninja powers were unlocked when she tested an early prototype, which had the side effect of turning her into a child. She has entered the Ninjala tournament in the hopes of finding a way to reverse the process. Burton: As Berecca’s colleague, Burton was also turned into a child through consuming the prototype Ninja-Gum. Optimistic and energetic, he is actually a descendant of legendary ninja Hattori Hanzo. He has entered the Ninjala tournament with the same goal as Berecca. Ron: Although he was the third member of the Ninja-Gum research team, Ron betrayed the others after they ate the prototype gum. He attacked Burton in their lab, revealing that he was actually there to witness the true power of the Gum. However, he was defeated by Burton’s Ippon Katana before he was able to kill his former colleague.
Ninja Lineages
The remaining five characters all have very different backgrounds, each drawing them to the Ninjala with a unique goal in mind.
Emma: Known as the Ninja Dancer, Emma has attracted fans from all over the world with her acrobatic style. She developed her skills as a vigilante hero, protecting the streets of her home city. It was this reputation for heroism that won her an invite to Ninjala. Jane: An expert hacker employed by the World Ninja Association, Jane used her skills to spy on the development of Ninja-Gum. Unfortunately, her sweet tooth betrayed her when infiltrating the lab, as the candy she casually ate turned out to be Ninja-Gum itself. Kappei: As one of the few characters who knew of their ninja heritage beforehand, Kappei trained for many years in swordsmanship. He is also accompanied by Gumchi, the extraterrestrial being that his family has protected throughout the ages. Kappei entered the Ninjala in order to search for his grandfather’s brother. Lucy: Following a traumatic event in her past, Lucy hid herself and her talents from the world for years. It wasn’t until her mother asked her to join the WNA Training School that she came out of her shell. Now known as one of the most cheery and charismatic ninja out there, Lucy has once again followed her mother’s advice in entering Ninjala. Van: A friendly and athletic boy, Van’s strong spirit has helped him through some tough times in the past. He first discovered his ninja heritage while escaping from the fire that destroyed his father’s house. Now his competitive spirit has lead him to enter Ninjala.
