Nintendo’s full list of games to pick backgrounds from is impressively diverse, beginning with the incredibly popular Animal Crossing: New Horizons and moving into a collection of older games such as Mario Kart 8, ARMS, and Star Fox Zero; as well as newer Switch titles such as Luigi’s Mansion 3 or Pokemon Sword and Shield. Many of the options have large, open spaces that make them perfect backgrounds, though Nintendo made sure to add a note at the bottom of the page confirming that “images are for personal use only.”

Companies and entertainment properties releasing images such as these has not been an uncommon practice in recent weeks. The official Twitter account for The Witcher also released Zoom backgrounds for fans to “surprise your colleagues.”
While there are no backgrounds meant to advertise upcoming games such as Paper Mario: The Origami King, there are images for Xenoblade Chronicles and its sequel. The recently released Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition has already sold better on Switch than the original Wii title, so it’s nice to see Nintendo looping in a wide range of its popular series for this collection.
