However, it seems the company may be experiencing a bit of a hiccup when it comes to the online user accounts and the influx of new online members. Recently, Nintendo Switch owners have begun increasingly reporting breaches to the accounts tied to their systems, which Nintendo has now official responded to.

Many Switch users are aware that Nintendo finally made the shift to a dedicated online platform at the beginning of the Switch’s life. This service, fittingly called the Nintendo Switch Online, which gives players access to online play as well as select NES and SNES games, heavily utilizes another account that is simply called a Nintendo Account. These accounts work in tandem with My Nintendo and allow players to sync up their information across pretty much all platforms Nintendo is associated with – be it mobile devices or dedicated consoles.

Unfortunately, in the past week or so more and more users have come out online with reports that their Nintendo accounts were being breached. Many users have taken to social media platforms to show emails from Nintendo stating that there were unauthorized login attempts associated with their accounts. In these emails, Nintendo actually shares where these login attempts come from, with many stemming from both China and the United States. Nintendo has issued an official statement on the issue to IGN.

While it is regrettable that so many users have reported breaches attempted on their accounts, it’s good to know that Nintendo is aware and investigating the matter. Hopefully, Nintendo will find more ways to improve security measures. This news also comes off the back of a recent system update for the Switch that aims to improve general performance and stability for the system.

The Nintendo Switch is available now.
