1-2-Switch was a party game that was released alongside the Nintendo Switch’s launch, which demonstrated a lot of the console and Joy-con’s function. More specifically, it demonstrated the Switch’s HD-Rumble and IR Motion Camera features, the newest innovations introduced. This was exemplified through the various mini-games available in the game, which received WarioWare comparisons due to the heavy focus on them. While sales of the game were healthy, topping out at a little over 3 million units in 2019, the critical reception was decidedly mixed due to the lack of progression and content.

Despite this reception, a notable Nintendo leaker is seemingly indicating that 1-2-Switch will be getting a sequel of some kind. This leak was posted on Twitter by Samus Hunter, with an incredibly vague tweet. It states that the game they are teasing will be polarizing, but it will be a “shadowdrop” announcement on Nintendo’s social media channels, release within one to two months, and will be a “surprise” to everyone.
While the tweet itself doesn’t explicitly mention a 1-2-Switch sequel, followers of the account pieced together the tweet’s context clues. The “One Two” months part was capitalized in the middle of the tweet, alongside the “May” part near the beginning as well. While the “May” part indicates that this title could release within the month of May, it’s coupled with the statement that the game will either be hated or loved. Pairing this up with the “One Two” portion of the tweet and one could draw the conclusion that the game is related to 1-2-Switch, due to its polarizing reception at launch.
A sequel to 1-2-Switch is quite curious, as many fans are still very apathetic to the game. The Switch already has a number of other party games that saw better responses from fans and critics such as Mario Party Superstars, WarioWare: Get It Together, and the upcoming Nintendo Switch Sports. However, fans should keep their expectations in check until an official announcement is made to see if this ends up being true or not.
A 1-2-Switch sequel is rumored to be in development.
