The latest issue of Famitsu magazine features a Q&A with the Big N pertaining to the new 3DS XL, and during this interview it was confirmed that the enlarged handheld will be receiving a uniquely designed Circle Pad Pro. Aside from adding a much needed additional stick, the peripheral should also make the already gargantuan 3DS XL even bulkier, which more or less defeats the purpose of the system being “portable.”
Details on the plastic add-on were not discussed any further during Famitsu’s time with Nintendo’s representatives, but the peripheral is confirmed for release at some point later this year. Games like Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D, Resident Evil: Revelations, and Kid Icarus: Uprising all support the Circle Pad Pro, and are just a few games that would benefit from being played on the 3DS XL’s 90% larger screens.
Despite initial criticism over the 3DS XL’s lack of a second built-in circle pad, the redesign really does look like a great one. Plenty of must-have titles are also en route to the 3D-enabled handheld, so the 3DS XL is looking like the best option for gamers wanting to enjoy the experience on a larger screen.
The Nintendo 3DS XL is scheduled to release in North America on August 19th for the price of $199.99.
