According to reports from MCV, Nintendo’s NX will have brand-new Mario, Zelda, and Pokemon titles up for grabs in the console’s launch window next year. Set to release in March 2017, the NX will supposedly have a new Pokemon game, courtesy of developer Game Freak, the recently announced Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and a fresh Mario title within the first 6 months of the console being available.

This alone would lead to a strong start for Nintendo, but that’s not all that MCV claims its sources are telling. According to the site, Sega, Square Enix, Ubisoft, Activision, and Warner Bros are all already on-board as 3rd party developers. CEO for Ubisoft, Yves Guillemot recently praised the upcoming console, meaning that the Watch Dogs and Assassin’s Creed creators are likely enthusiastic to work alongside Nintendo and the NX.

The sources that are “close to Nintendo” also went on to state that the NX would not be as powerful as the PS4. Graphics will apparently be above PS3-grade but not quite up to scratch with current-gen expected on release.

Early rumors about the NX being less powerful than the PS4 and featuring detachable handheld controllers are also “100% true,” if MCV’s sources can be trusted. It’s a strange choice but not one that is entirely unanticipated, with Nintendo never aiming to be the highest spec system on the market. Until the NX’s formal reveal, though, we’re not really going to know for certain what rumors are true and which aren’t, but we do know that the upcoming console will be a “new experience,” and not a successor to the Wii U.

The developer has claimed on several occasions that the NX will not replace their current consoles. This means that it’s probably going to be something completely different to what we expect when it releases next year.

Nintendo’s NX console is currently scheduled for release sometime in March 2017.
