The news of these upcoming sets came just after the surprise announcement this past Halloween that Nintendo would be producing three Luigi’s Mansion themed LEGO sets. These give several different items and objects based off the green mustachio’d brother’s spin-off, such as LEGO versions of the ghostly enemies, Luigi’s scatterbrained scientific companion Professor E. Gadd, and even his trusty Poltergust. While the Luigi’s Mansion set doesn’t have a set release date, these four new Super Mario expansion sets will be coming next year.

These expansion sets were revealed through Nintendo’s official twitter, detailing the things added include “beach challenges, flying fun, and even more characters” according to the caption. Fittingly enough, these sets all seem to be based off of some of the beach-themed water levels in the Super Mario series, evidenced by the blue blocks that represent the water. A lot of water themed enemies and allies are included in these sets, such as Dorrie.

One of the sets will also feature something usually associated with one of his enemies, the clown car that Bowser Jr. flies. This will come in its own titular “Bowser Jr’s Clown Car Expansion Set” that Mario can fit into, where it even comes with the same boxing arm attachments on the side, as well as a LEGO Bob-bomb enemy. The “LEGO Super Mario Character Packs” will feature a bunch of enemies, such as the Mechakoopa, Freezie, and Ant Trooper among others.

All four of these sets are slated to come out in early 2022, adding onto some already very popular LEGO sets released. Nintendo’s continued success with the Mario property shows how much attention is given to it. From the Super Mario World theme park expansion, to the upcoming animated film, to these LEGO sets, there’s a lot for fans to look forward to. Some fans commented on the tweet hoping that some of Nintendo’s other properties could be given a similar LEGO treatment in the near future too.
