Nintendo was originally entirely unhappy with content creators profiting off of making content that featured Nintendo properties. This is what led the company to end up establishing the Nintendo Creators Program. The program, which has since been dissolved, previously forced content creators to enter into a contract and share their profits with the company. Last month, Nintendo launched the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack, allowing players to enjoy a handful of classic Nintendo 64 and Sega Genesis titles on top of the NES and SNES ones that were already available. There was hesitation from the public prior to its release as many wondered where Nintendo would settle price-wise for the service, and the ramifications it would have for those games ever appearing on the Nintendo eShop....

The first, and most important, is that the Nintendo Network ID, essentially Nintendo’s version of the gamertag for the Wii U, is tied to a single console. That means that once a Network ID has been registered with a Wii U, it cannot be transferred or reactivated on another console. Nintendo has confirmed the news as well, saying that there are plans to use the “Nintendo Network Account with future Nintendo consoles and other devices, such as PCs,” but for now the ID is tied to the console....

The Wii Shop Channel has been replaced by Nintendo’s eShop, where you can purchase games for the Nintendo Switch. The end of life for the Wii Shop was due to the migration of the new console. Many games for the Wii are being remade into a Switch compatible version as the latest generation of Nintendo’s console seems to be doing exceedingly well. The Wii Shop was unique in its own way, nothing like its competitors at the time PlayStation Store and Xbox Live Marketplace....

Nintendo consoles, handhelds, and games have always pushed the envelope by having unique features. The Nintendo Switch is no different as the first console to be a mixture of handheld and console, as well as using the motion controls in games in new and different ways. Nintendo even filed a patent for bending Joy-Cons back in September 2019. The Switch seems to be continuing its move into new and uncharted territory by adding what looks like Stylus pens to the Joy-Con controllers....

Of course cynicism is largely fueled by past mistakes - a situation in many gamers’ eyes with regard to the Wii. But the folks at Nintendo, in particular the Nintendo of America President, Reggie Fils-Aime, remain optimistic that the Wii U will still be a huge hit. Like the 3DS, Wii U, and Wii, the Nintendo Switch features Mii characters that players can create to represent them in some games. It’s unclear at the time of this writing which games will utilize the Mii characters, as it doesn’t appear any games in the launch lineup will do so. And since Nintendo Switch is ditching Miiverse and StreetPass, we also don’t know which apps will use the Miis, if any at all....

As seen below in the video from the YouTuber known as “My Mate VINCE”, the Nintendo Switch fan shows off his interpretation of what an “XL” iteration of the console would look like with a prototype version of the system allowing one to play in handheld and table top mode in 1080p on a much larger screen. The whole setup is rather impressive for a proof of concept, but perhaps most noteworthy is how he managed to make sure that the JoyCons could be snapped on and removed by utilizing controller grips attached to the side of the monitor....

Even though the capacitive touchscreen is hardly among the most dated features of the Switch, the developers that committed to taking advantage of this capability are few and far between. And despite its tablet-like form factor and the fact that its internals mirror those of a (now-aging) Android device, Nintendo showed little interest in encouraging non-gaming software development for the Switch over the last six years. The first set of the NieR: Automata videos will no doubt prove incredibly interesting to fans of the original. Revolving around the game’s combat, they first show a pair of characters walking around the post-apocalyptic game world, before then taking on enemies in the game’s action-oriented combat system. It certainly looks as though the game’s action has a more dynamic feel than the original, perhaps in keeping with Platinum Games’ development history....

When Nier: Automata first arrived on Steam, many reported numerous issues with it, including a locked framerate, awkward controls, problems with the UI, and sometimes even random crashes. To make things worse, these problems have otherwise not been addressed for the last four years, with Steam owners having to resort to downloading a fan-made mod in order to fix it themselves. It didn’t help when the Become as Gods edition was added to Xbox Game Pass and only for the consoles and Windows, making the Steam version effectively outdated and leading to it being review-bombed by disgruntled fans....
