The sync problem seems to primarily affect the left Nintendo Switch Joy-Con, with Kotaku’s Jason Schreier just one of the media professionals to have reported issues with the left Joy-Con specifically. The left and right Joy-Con controller offer slightly different capabilities, for example, as the right controller allows the console to connect to amiibo figures. It’s possible that as Nintendo worked hard to make sure the additional technology in the right controller worked without faults, issues with the left controller slipped through the cracks....

During the week of E3 2018, Twitter reports nearly 15 million #E3 related Tweets that spanned the globe. Not surprisingly, the most Tweeted about newly-announced game was Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. There were more than a few big moments and surprises at the convention, with Elder Scrolls 6 officially being confirmed, the death of a beloved character coming to Destiny 2, and even a new console being announced by Microsoft....

Animal Crossing: New Horizons provides the player with a random set of villagers who come and go throughout the game. As there are nearly 400 villagers, having a favorite villagers move in is a gamble and amiibo cards are the only surefire way to guarantee a specific villager moves in. Because of this, players have been scrambling to find the cards they crave, despite store shelves being completely empty of the product....

In total, Pekala will have waited 30 days for the opportunity to buy a Nintendo Switch, an impressive feat considering he’s camping out in New York in the winter time. Then again the rights to (presumably) a World Record is likely enough immortality to make the effort with it. Even if it doesn’t lead to anything special, though, being the first to buy a console is a memory of a lifetime....

The original launch of 1080 Snowboarding was in 1998, exactly 20 years ago - which makes this year a great anniversary date for the title. Its Gamecube-based successor, 1080 Avalanche, came out in 2003 (a similarly anniversary-friendly 15 years ago). Nintendo’s requested trademark is still officially under examination, though there’s little reason why it would ultimately be rejected - the only real question is what the trademark will eventually be used for....

Donkey Konga was a trilogy of rhythm games on the GameCube that was developed by Namco. The main gimmick involved the unique controller peripheral, the DK Bongos, which would involve the player tapping the top of these bongo controllers to play in time with the song. This team was responsible for the Taiko no Tatsujin series, which used a similar drum-style gameplay. The first two games were brought overseas, albeit with a different tracklist than the Japanese version, while the third game never made it over to the West....

The reveal of the upcoming Nintendo Switch OLED model excited some and disappointed others, but mostly it seemed to re-re-reignite speculation about the long-rumored 4K Switch Pro. Nintendo addressed these rumors on Twitter on Monday, stating, “We just announced that Nintendo Switch (OLED Model) will launch in October 2021, and have no plans for launching any other model at this time.” In the same series of tweets, Nintendo’s corporate public relations also shot down rumors that the $350 OLED Switch would have a higher profit margin than the original version....

This is compounded by the fact that it has more than 1,000 days after Metroid Prime 4 had announced that it restarted development, to the frustration of some fans. The only other mention of the elusive game was at E3 2021 in passing, saying that Nintendo and Retro Studios were hard at work developing it, right before the reveal of Metroid Dread. While Metroid Dread was released this year to the jubilation of fans and critics, Metroid Prime 4 isn’t so lucky and doesn’t have a release date....

According to NPD analyst Mat Piscatella, “Consumer spending across video game hardware, content, and accessories reached $3.8 billion in October 2020, 14% higher when compared to a year ago,” a running theme with console and game sales across 2020. “Mobile, subscription, hardware, and accessories were among the largest growth segments. Year-to-date spending totaled $37.5 billion, 20% higher than the same period in 2019.” Leading the charge for hardware sales last month was none other than Nintendo’s handheld/console hybrid Nintendo Switch, which continues to dominate hardware sales and claiming the highest October sales of any console since the Nintendo Wii in 2008....
