Nintendo insider Emily Rogers has claimed that Intelligent Systems has been working on a new Fire Emblem game. Rogers describes the game as a “wild card,” speculating that it will potentially release in October 2022 or early 2023. Rogers said that the game is “nearly finished with its development” and has been in the works for over three years at Intelligent Systems and a support studio. Super Mario Run is a fun time-waster, but it seems that it doesn’t translate particularly well to the real world. Video footage from the event makes the whole scene look incredibly awkward, as a performer in a Mario costume makes a valiant attempt to recreate the app’s side-scrolling gameplay. A mock castle background set against a gray, gloomy sky doesn’t provide the best backdrop for the action, but things only get worse once Mario takes to the stage....

In its latest financial briefing, Nintendo decreased the Nintendo Switch sales forecast from 20 million unit sales during this financial year (ends on March 31, 2019) to 17 million units sold. The company revealed that in the nine months since April 2018, it has sold 14.49 million Switch consoles around the world, contributing to a lifetime Switch sales figure of 32.27 million units. While 14.49 console unit sales is nothing to sniff at, it does mean that it’s highly unlikely that Nintendo will miss its 20 million target....

A duo of fighting games is making its way to the Nintendo Switch in February. Samurai Shodown is confirmed to arrive on the Switch this month, bringing the decades-old franchise to the hybrid console. The other fighter is possibly Street Fighter V. The 2016 title from Capcom has seen many updates in its ongoing development, but it’s reportedly making its way to the Switch in February. Capcom confirmed that Street Fighter V: Champions Edition is drops February 14 on other platforms, so, if it is coming to Switch, expect it to arrive around that date....

The biggest question of all, however, is just what kind of space the Switch is supposed to occupy in the way people understand console and handheld gaming devices. The Switch’s system specs don’t necessarily help clarify that either, and its battery life when away from its dock has come under fire from some who feel the Switch’s mobility may be limited by how often it will need to be recharged....
