Like it’s predecessor, the 3Ds will be backwards compatible with DS and DSi games alike. No other information on screen size, handheld size, or peripherals have yet to be announced and will most likely be unveiled at Nintendo’s E3 press conference. The saga began in 2016, when Nintendo began to file complaints against COLOPL with regards to perceived violations of five of their patents in the game White Cat Project (also known as Shironeko Project). This included one describing “the special technology used to operate a joystick over a touch panel” which had been filed for the Nintendo DS Wrist Strap for use in games like Super Mario 64 DS. When COLOPL pushed back, claiming that none of their games infringed on any of Nintendo’s patents, the gaming giant took to the courts, filing a lawsuit against the developer in January 2018....

The Nintendo Switch originally launched in March of 2017, after being referred to simply as the NX for several months. Since launching in 2017, it has become one of the most popular Nintendo consoles to have ever existed, selling tens of millions of units over the course of three years. In fact, as of March of 2020, the Switch actually outsold the Nintendo Wii as the highest-selling Nintendo console in Japan....

This special edition follows on from the cute Animal Crossing design, but this is much more than just a colourful console and Joy-Cons. A product manufacturer named Gamevice has now filed a lawsuit against Nintendo, accusing the company of violating a patent that it filed in 2012 in relation to its Android-based tablet the Wikipad. Gamevice had come up with an idea for a tablet with detachable controllers and a device with a “flexible bridge section,” before releasing the Wikipad in 2013. In the lawsuit, not only does Gamevice ask for damages from Nintendo but the company also asks for a ban to be put on console sales for the Switch....
